The finished product looks very functional

Here is Jimmy's finished product. It's not an Evo piece but it does look very functional. In terms of reducing lift it should be quite effective. Compared to an original Evo III splitter it lacks the under bumper venturi section and also lacks the extension to place it lower down in the air stream. The E3 splitter actually sits about 1/2" below the bottom of the bumper cover. The closer that the splitter sits to the pavement, the more downforce it creates. Jimmy mentions that the splitter does a good job of directing high pressure air through the oil cooler resulting in noticeably lower oil temps.



Jimmy's home made Gurney flap Jimmy also fab'd up this rear wing extension. It is really a Gurney flap and is similar in concept to the Evo III rear wing. Except that Jimmy's wing is not adjustable. The flap is formed from aluminum and it is bonded onto a scalloped section below the wing. Again, although it is not an Evo piece it should be good at producing downforce and is therefore a good match for the front splitter.


A rear shot of Jimmy's Gurney flap It is important to remember that splitters and wing extensions should really be added in matched pairs. Otherwise you risk upsetting the aerodynamic balance of the car. The worst case scenrio is a big front splitter with no rear wing mod. This will make the front end of the car grip better than the rear and leads to oversteer. So the car gets loose at high speed - not desireable.
