Attachment to the bumper cover

Laying down the backup tape

Before I mount the splitter to the bumper cover I lay down strips of "pick-up truck cap" mounting tape, to give it a nice tight seal to the bumper cover and help the two dissimilar plastics conform to each other. The tape is just like very wide and thick weather-stripping. Its very heavy duty and meant for outdoor / automotive use. I am sure this step is not absolutely necessary but it makes it mount up very nice. Also, as I disassembled the broken one this mounting tape was so sturdy I probably could have used half the fasteners I did use. I literally had to "pry" the old splitter off the bumper cover "after" I had removed all the fasteners. As far as fasteners go, I used M6 "button head" bolts with standard washers against the hard acrylic and fender washers against the softer plastic of the bumper cover. Nyloc nuts were used everywhere.

Drilling the installation holes As you can see in the underside picture of the broken splitter I retained the rubber under strip supplied by the factory. It just closes down the opening at the front of the car that much more. And its made of soft ABS so it provides sort of a soft "wear strip" for the harder Acrylic splitter. This will also be illustrated in the next series of pics I send you. Mine is kind of hammered so I may order a new one.

Splitter mounted on bottom of bumper cover I drilled LOTS of attachment holes,,, I didn't use all of them. I did use all of them last time but upon disassembly of the broken one I determined that on the first one I went a little "overkill" On this one I drilled all the same holes but only used the ones I thought were most important,,, totally a discretionary call. Again this is a homemade thing,,, so I kind of make it up as I go,,, basement level R&D at its best.
