The fuel filter

Fuel filter install On Mectronics recommendation I also choose a Bosch 71051 fuel filter, which is an OE filter for a '79-'80 450 Mercedes. They also said they use these filters on Porsche Cup cars, Indy Lights cars and up. They said it filters down to 4 microns and flows very well. This filter very conveniently comes with M12x1.5 inlets and outlets which are very easy to adapt to 6AN via some Earls adapters. I will be going all 6AN on my fuel system.

One way valve In terms of fuel pressure - basically as long as the incoming line sees MORE pressure than what is required (3.5 BAR) you will be fine. Delivery is not so big a problem because at 200-ish HP or so any decent performance pump will handle the delivery rate. I'll bet an external E30 M3 stock pump would have worked just fine. But what fun is that?

Layout of fuel lines over the driveshaft I would add two things for guys who may be contemplating doing this. I made two crucial mistakes on my install which I have now fixed:

1) DEFINITELY buy the cell WITH a surge tank. I didn't and I had all kinds of fuel delivery problems at Lime Rock. I have since added an ATL 3 door surge tank. Even a bone stock M3 on "R" tires will generate enough "G" to uncover the standard cell fuel pick up even with all the foam.

2) I made my vent hose too direct. I went for a clean looking direct down vent. I had fuel spillage when the cell was full. My solution was to route the vent hose straight up a few inches above the cell, put a loop in it, then down to the vent bulkhead fitting.
