This is the driver's side footwell. Note the custom made dead pedal.
Just under the dead pedal one can see a tube heading up towards the driver's
side front strut tower. We can also see the "X-brace" accross the driver's
door. Note the gussets at the center of the X. Very common European setup but
interestingly this was added by Gary. Matter provided only a single diagonal
accross the doors.
The X-brace does not provide as much side impact protection as an American style "ladder bar" but it does provide better chassis stiffness. Some cars I have seen use both! We can just see the baseplate welded onto the floorpan. Also check out how all the tubes come together at junctions. This goes a long way to increasing stiffness if you do it throughout the entire cage. |
