GSP vs. Ralph Angersbach
Stock 2.3L with 284/276 cams vs. modified 2.5L

Ralph Angersbach posted a dyno chart for his 2.3L engine which was stock other than the addition of a set of 284/276 Schrick cams and a Jim C. chip. Don Fields installed the cams and dialed them in.

The peak number of 202 RWHP surprised me. That's quite a jump in performance from simply installing a hotter set of cams. I started to wonder whether it really is worth the $10,000 + that it generally takes to build a modified 2.5L engine 8^)

However, when laying the two dyno charts on top of each other it becomes apparent that there is more to dyno results than peak numbers. Certainly Ralph's engine is impressive for its state of development. But look at the difference in the curves at redline - roughly 40 RWHP! And note the difference in the area under the curves from about 4200 RPM onwards...

Dyno chart of RWHP - Ralph Angersbach and GSP

Note that the two curves were obtained on different dynos on opposite ends of the country.
