Rick Ricker's E30 325is IT Cage: Photo #1
One of the most obvious features of Rick's cage is that the rear down bars drop down to the rear spring perches, as opposed to the rear shock towers. With IT rules being what they are, it's either one or the other. Rear coil over's are not allowed so Rick decided that it might be better to pick up the substantial loads fed into the spring perches vs. the lower loads fed into the shock towers. The only tricky area is that this layout puts the rear down bars at a rather severe angle and the SCCA has a rule as to how steep this angle can be. Rick was able to stay safely within this limit.

On the far side you can see that Rick has implemented an X-bar across the driver's door in conjunction with a Nascar style "ladder bar". This provides maximum stiffness combined with maximum side impact protection.
