P7 brake pedal compared to traditional E46 clutch pedal setup

The P7 brake pedal was designed with a strong emphasis on ergonomics, i.e. how the human body works inside the car. The shape and size of the P7 pedal is such that it is absolutely transparent to the driver when using the right foot to brake - which is exactly as it should be. In other words, the P7 pedal is shaped and placed so that the right foot cannot tell the difference between the P7 brake system and the factory setup.

With regards to braking with the left foot, the P7 pedal is sized to duplicate the location of the standard clutch pedal (except that it is a little closer to the floorboard). In this way the left foot is able to flow naturally from the foot rest to the brake pedal, and back. Anyone who has driven with a clutch pedal realizes that after some time the movement of the left foot between the clutch pedal and the footrest becomes almost instinctive, and the same is true of the P7 brake pedal.

With the P7 pedal installed, the SMG equipped E46 M3 is allowed to come into its own. Short of designing the entire footwell specifically for two pedal operation, this is as good as it gets. If the driver prefers, the right foot can be used for braking most of the time. This is perfectly instinctive, and the left foot can be used when the occasion arises. Or, for a more complete SMG experience the P7 brake pedal can just as easily be used for left foot braking 100% of the time.
